How to Use Your Medicaid at Eco Dental NY (Step-by-Step)
- Call us at (718) 368-3368) or book online. Tell us your Medicaid plan name and CIN number (the number on your card).
- Eligibility check — we verify with the plan in 2 minutes. If you are not sure which plan you have, we will look it up via the NYS eMedNY system.
- First visit — bring your Medicaid card and a photo ID. Exam, cleaning, and X-rays are completed at the first visit (90 minutes total).
- Treatment plan — Dr. Natalia Blazhkevich walks you through every recommended procedure and which ones require prior authorization. You leave with a written estimate of what is covered and what (if anything) you would pay.
- Prior authorization — for crowns, implants, and dentures, we file the paperwork. Approval typically takes 5-15 business days.
What Medicaid Does NOT Cover (Be Honest Upfront)
We believe in honest pricing. Medicaid will not cover:
- Cosmetic procedures — porcelain veneers, professional teeth whitening, smile makeovers
- Clear aligners (Invisalign) for cosmetic alignment in adults — covered only for severe medical orthodontic need in children under 21
- Premium materials — gold crowns, zirconia on back teeth (porcelain-to-metal is the Medicaid standard)
- Replacement of recently-lost dentures or appliances (8-year rule)
- Dental implants when not medically necessary (cosmetic replacement of a single missing tooth is usually denied)
If you want any of these, we offer CareCredit 0% financing for 6, 12, or 18 months.
Children’s Medicaid (Child Health Plus)
If your child has Medicaid or Child Health Plus, coverage is more generous than adult Medicaid:
- Cleanings every 6 months
- Fluoride treatments and sealants — fully covered
- Fillings on all teeth
- Orthodontic evaluation (medical-necessity braces or aligners)
- Pulp therapy and stainless steel crowns on baby teeth
Dr. Natalia sees children age 3+ with Medicaid. For children under 3 or with severe special needs, we refer to a pediatric specialist on the same block.

Frequently Asked Questions — Medicaid Dentistry Brooklyn
I have Medicaid but my last dentist said they don’t accept it. Will you accept me?
Yes. We accept every major NY Medicaid managed-care plan plus straight Medicaid. Many private offices in Brooklyn opt out because reimbursement rates are lower; we have made the business decision to serve our neighborhood, including Medicaid patients.
Do I need a referral from my primary care doctor to see a dentist with Medicaid?
No. New York Medicaid does not require a primary care referral for dental visits. You can book directly with us.
How long do I have to wait for an appointment with Medicaid?
Cleanings and exams: usually within 48 hours. Emergencies (severe pain, swelling, broken tooth): same-day Mon-Fri. Crowns, dentures, and implants: 5-15 business days for prior authorization, then immediate scheduling.
If a procedure requires prior authorization, what does that mean?
Some procedures (crowns, implants, dentures) require Medicaid to approve coverage before we can perform the work. We submit the X-rays and treatment notes; the plan reviews and responds. We handle 100% of the paperwork. You wait, then we schedule.
What if Medicaid denies my crown/implant/denture request?
We appeal on your behalf in 80% of denials, often successfully. If the appeal still fails, we offer the same procedure with CareCredit 0% financing as a backup. We will tell you up front if a denial is likely.
Are X-rays safe? My Medicaid plan says they are covered, but I am pregnant.
Modern digital dental X-rays use about 1/10 the radiation of film X-rays from 20 years ago. They are safe for non-pregnant adults annually. If you are pregnant, we postpone non-urgent X-rays and use a lead apron with thyroid collar for any emergency imaging.
Do you take Medicare?
Original Medicare (Part A and B) does not cover dental, so we cannot bill it for routine cleanings or fillings. Some Medicare Advantage plans (Part C) include a dental rider — we accept those individually. Call us and we will verify your plan’s dental benefit.
I lost my Medicaid card. Can I still come in?
Yes. We can look you up in eMedNY with your name, date of birth, and Social Security number. Active Medicaid coverage is what matters, not the physical card.
